Mankato Area Radio Club VE Session

This online session is over Zoom. The Zoom link is usually emailed on the day of the test.

Registration is required if you wish to attend this session. If you register, we expect you to show up on the test date. If you cannot attend after registering, DO NOT wait until the last minute to let us know. Contact Mike WX0MIK at wx0mik@gmail.com. Is the session full? Fees

• Candidates 18 and older pay a $15 testing fee. A retest fee is $15.
• Candidates under 18 pay a $5 testing fee.
• Pay the invoice before the session. The invoice email usually arrives a few days before.
• After you pass, the FCC charges a separate $35 application fee, paid online through CORES. Once your application is submitted you have 10 days to pay it. The FCC does not charge this fee for upgrades.

What you need

• A stable Internet connection and Zoom installed.
• A webcam and microphone on a computer, or a smartphone/tablet joined as a second device for video.
• A quiet room with no interruptions. If you are disturbed, the session may be cancelled or you may have to restart.
• Use one screen only and cover any others. Keep the area clear of papers and ham radio or electronics material.
• Headphones are not allowed once the test begins. Use a separate speaker and microphone.
• An FCC Registration Number (FRN) and a valid email address. You will create the FRN during registration.
• A legal photo ID (driver's license, passport). If you have no photo ID, bring two forms of identification:
  • Non-photo ID/driver's license
  • Birth certificate (must have the appropriate seal)
  • Social Security card
  • Library card
  • Utility bill, bank statement or other business correspondence that names you, or a postmarked envelope addressed to you at the mailing address on your FRN account
  • Students/minors may use any of the above, a school ID, a minor's work permit or a report card, or a legal guardian may present a photo ID.
• Your current license printed, if you are upgrading, and any Certificates of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCE) if your license or upgrade has not been issued yet.
• A pen or pencil, and one clean sheet of paper (both sides blank).
• Optional: a calculator with the memory erased and formulas cleared, or the calculator app on the computer you are testing on. Show the VEs that memory is cleared. No notes or formulas, and slide rules and log tables must be free of both.
• Silence or turn off your cell phone. Phones, tablets and smartwatches may not be used as a calculator, but a phone may be used as a second device for video.
