What to Bring

New License Applicants

• A government-issued photo ID.
• Your FCC Registration Number (FRN). If you do not already have an FRN, obtain one before the exam through the FCC CORES Registration System.

Upgrading Applicants

• A government-issued photo ID.
• Any unexpired Certificates of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCEs) that are not already reflected on your FCC license.

Exam Details

Examinations are administered electronically on tablets provided by the exam team. A calculator app is available on each tablet.

Exam Fee: $14, cash only. Exact change is appreciated.

Applicants who successfully pass an examination element may continue and attempt the next license class during the same session.

FCC Application Fee for New Licenses

After successfully passing your examination, the FCC will assess a separate $35 application fee before issuing your license. This fee is not collected by the exam team. The FCC will send payment instructions directly to the email address provided on your application.

IMPORTANT: When paying the $35 FCC application fee, use a desktop or laptop computer. Do not use a phone, tablet, or other mobile device. Problems have been reported with mobile payments where the payment is processed but is not properly credited to the application. Using a desktop or laptop computer can help avoid this issue.

Amateur Radio examinations begin at 6:00 PM on the fourth Thursday of each month.

Irving Amateur Radio Club Meeting

The Irving Amateur Radio Club meets at 7:00 PM, immediately following the exam session.

Everyone interested in Amateur Radio is welcome to attend. You do not need to be a licensed operator or club member.
