Thank you for your interest in amateur radio! The following boilerplate information is provided to all Amateur Radio Club of Westminster Village (ARCWV) Exam Session applicants.
I want to let you know that there is a new online exam practice application available. There is no cost, and it is presented by a reputable organization that markets logging programs for amateur radio operators. The application works nicely on a PC as well as on an Android or iPhone device. The website is [https://study.affirmatech.com/]. I have found this solution to be well-designed and am comfortable sharing it with individuals studying for their license.
Our exam session at the Bayside Cub in Westminster Village opens at 0930 local time. Once you've registered, your name will be on an access list at the entry gate. Simply inform the security person that you are here to take the amateur radio exam at the Bayside Club. If you need directions to the Bayside Club, they can assist you. As soon as we complete administrative activities we will begin testing. Please be patient as this will be the first session in which we will be using computer aided registration and digital signatures to sign off paperwork. Please review the following items before your arrival. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly. This session will adhere to the following standards:
Please bring a current legal photo ID; any of the following documents are acceptable:
State Driver's License
Government Issued Passport
Military or Law Enforcement Office Photo ID card
Student School Photo ID card
State Issued Photo ID card
Please bring a printed copy of your 10-digit FCC Registration Number (FRN). Effective 5/20/2021, all amateur radio license transactions require an FRN to process. The FCC no longer accepts Social Security Numbers (SSN) on applications. There is a helpful video at [https://www.fcc.gov/rofrn] to guide individuals with obtaining an FRN.
If you are upgrading your license, please bring one printed and signed copy of your current license. This copy will be collected and sent forward as part of your exam submittal package.
Effective 6/29/2021, the FCC license application form requires a current valid email address. Applications without an email address will not be processed. If an applicant does not have email access, ARRL recommends using an email address held by a family member or friend to receive formal correspondence from the FCC. "Formal correspondence" includes the link the FCC will send you to pay $35.00 for your new FCC license, license renewal, or vanity license application fee (Please Note: Fee does not apply to operator license upgrades or administrative changes such as addresses.) and a second link that enables you to print an Official Copy of your license!
Use of a calculator with the memory erased and formulas cleared is allowed. You may not bring any written notes or calculations into the Exam Session. You will be provided with scratch paper to use during your exam(s). Slide rules and logarithmic tables are acceptable if they are free of notes and formulas. Cellphones must be silenced or turned off during the Exam Session, and phone calculator functions may not be used. Please bring a black ballpoint pen to use when completing formal application documents. Pencils will be provided for use with exam answer sheets.
Special Needs Accommodation: If you are unable to take an exam in its standard written form, or at our regular testing location, the Exam Team will do its absolute best to provide you with a viable alternative testing opportunity. Please contact me before registering to work out an effective testing plan that takes your specific needs into consideration.
The Exam Fee is $15.00 cash per candidate per session. Please bring exact change to cover your Exam Fee. When you pass your exam, you may take the next level exam(s) at no cost if you wish. The Exam Team and I sincerely look forward to meeting you on 16 January 2026. Good luck with your exam preparation! Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out directly to me at your convenience.
Sincerely,
Ron Thomas, N4RT, ARCWV VE Coordinator, e: n4rt@bellsouth.net, c: 850.339.3004
