🔧 How to Get an FRN (Step‑by‑Step)

  1. Create an FCC Username (if you don’t already have one) The FCC now requires everyone to use the updated CORES system.
  • Go to the FCC CORES login page. https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do
  • Select “Register” to create a username (your email address) and password. You’ll receive a confirmation email—verify it to activate your account.
  1. Log in to CORES Once your username is active, log in through the CORES portal. You may be asked for a secondary authentication code sent to your email.
  2. Register a New FRN After logging in:
  • Choose “Register New FRN” from the main menu.
  • Enter your personal information (name, address, SSN or TIN).
  • Submit the form and your FRN will be issued immediately.
  1. Save Your FRN

Be prepared for your exam by studying the material. There are many sources that provide study materials. We recommend the HamStudy.org platorm in Study mode to be best prepared. When you have seen 100% of the questions and can score 85% or higher on the practice exams, you are ready to pass.

Please look at the information on the following page to determine what you need to bring with you on exam day. We will be using electronic devices for the exam so you will not need the pencils but may need a writing utensil if you need to make notes or do calculations during the test.
