About W3HAC
W3HAC, HacDC Amateur Radio Club welcomes everyone in and around the District of Columbia, including people at all levels of amateur radio licensing and from every walk of life. Our volunteer examiner team is comprised of W3HAC members dedicated to providing friendly, accessible amateur radio licensing examinations in Washington, D.C.
Exam Info
We hold our exam sessions at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library, conveniently located near Gallery Place.
All are welcome to test with us! You can test for your Technician, General, or Amateur Extra Class License. Due to library policies, registration is required. We cannot accept walk-ins. Please make sure to register for an FCC Registration Number (FRN) before you come to the session (instructions here). Then, register here on Hamstudy using this page.
You may take multiple elements in the same exam session; we just ask that you have studied and are ready to pass. We recommend that you are passing practice exams with 80% aptitude or higher.
Fees and Payments
Exam Fees are:
- Minors (17 and under) $5, with an ARRL grant to reimburse the $35 application fee for new hams
- Adults (18 and over) $15
Next Steps
After you register, you will receive a confirmation email from our testing provider ExamTools, a payment link for the exam fee, and instructions for Saturday's test session.
